Integrity in Every Ingredient

Integrity in Every Ingredient

Most of us don’t know where our spices come from. That’s not your fault—but it is a problem.

Years ago, on my tours of places exotic, I visited spice markets around the world  - places buzzing with life, smells, and noise.

But behind the colour and chaos, I saw something I couldn’t unsee.

  • Traders mixing lead chromate into turmeric to deepen the yellow.
  • Red chillies coated with Sudan dye to make them look more “vibrant.”
  • And black pepper that, when ground, gave off more starch than spice.

This wasn’t the shady back alley of some forgotten corner - it was the mainstream supply chain.

And worse? Much of it was headed to export markets.

That’s when I realised: integrity had left the building.

So when we created Khet & Co., we started with one non-negotiable: Integrity must be present in every ingredient.

Not just claimed—but proven.

And that changes everything:

  • It means we don’t take a anyone’s word for purity - we support farmers to meet clean cultivation standards, and then we test everything.
  • It means refusing anyone who offers “cost-saving blends” or “enhancers.”
  • It means losing deals because we won’t lower our standards - and sleeping well anyway.

Integrity isn’t a marketing gimmick. It’s a stance.

It costs more. It’s harder. But it’s what builds trust - in every pinch, every pack, every plate.

When you open a pack of Khet & Co. spice, you’re not just seasoning your food - you’re choosing a supply chain that stood for something.

Thought of the Day: When did “natural” stop meaning anything—and what will it take for us to reclaim it?
